001  Rimowa Madison Flagship | Retail Design

Proposal | New York | 2023

This proposal for Rimowa’s Madison Avenue flagship envisions the store as both a retail space and a destination along this historic luxury corridor. The concept is anchored by a dramatic double-height façade, designed to reflect both Rimowa’s brand identity and the architectural character of Manhattan itself.

The façade functions as a contemporary reinterpretation of a garage door. When closed, the expansive aluminum doors conceal the store interior while leaving only one element on display: the client care laboratory, the heart of the concept. When the store opens, the façade retracts, unveiling the full interior in a bold and theatrical gesture.

Inside, the design is organized around a strict grid system, which serves both as a planning tool and a recurring design motif. The grid is expressed through fixtures, shelving, and lighting, creating a cohesive visual language throughout the space. At the center of this composition lies the client care laboratory; a live, performative feature that transforms routine product care into an experience, inviting customers to return not just for goods, but for engagement with the brand itself.
