The Cross Chair is a fusion of simplicity and art, where the elegance of industrial design meets functional form. This piece of furniture reveals the beauty of its structure by exposing its components—chromed steel tubes, joints, and screws—allowing the craftsmanship to take center stage. The 5/8” chromed stainless steel tubes intersect seamlessly, creating a precise module that enhances the architectural composition of the chair. Drawing influence from a utilitarian, engineered aesthetic, the challenge was to craft a streamlined piece of furniture that embraces the raw beauty of its materials. The intersection of structure becomes a key design feature, showcasing the elegance that emerges from precision and careful detailing.
More than just a functional piece of furniture, the Cross Chair reflects a thoughtful approach to contemporary design. Its prominent use of industrial materials and deliberate exposure of its structural components transforms the chair into a sculptural piece. Custom joints are engineered to seamlessly connect the steel tubes from all directions, locking them in place to create precise intersections that form the chair’s framework and structural integrity. These intersections also serve as a visual element that speaks to the principles of minimalism and engineering.
The seat and backrest are made from resin cast materials to allow the structure beneath to remain visible, highlighting the chair’s exposed framework. The resin backrest has a pivoting function, allowing users to adjust the angle of recline to their preference. The choice of resin maintains the chair’s exposed structural language, ensuring that every element complements the design’s engineered inspiration. Every detail is carefully considered, expressing the thoughtful innovation behind the design—where raw materials are celebrated for their inherent beauty and form.
